In an effort to market Malawi, the mission leaves no stone unturned by meeting every stakeholder who will collaborate with it in carrying the Malawi flag to the highest level and one of these stakeholders is the Media.
Egypt has the most extensive and powerful radio and Television broadcasting system in the Arab region making it the third largest media market after Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Egypt is one of the most densely populated countries in the Middle East with an estimated population of 97 million citizens. Most of the newspapers have a print and a digital version, yet the private media have more presence on the digital platform than the public media because of the developed infrastructure that helps attracting a good number of visitors, and a high level of audiences’ engagement.
Classified as a transitional democracy, Egypt features a media landscape which has witnessed many changes and challenges since the January 25 revolution in 2011. Bearing the above in mind, on 28th January 2024 the Mission represented by Secretary for Tourism (SST) Abdullah Mdala engaged the highest authority in the media industry the Egyptian Syndicate of Journalists in order to discuss ways on how the mission can collaborate with the Media entity in featuring Trade and Tourism.
During the meeting he held with the two senior managing editors Aboo Suudi Mohammad and Muhammad Abdel Musnif welcomed Mdala and had a fruitful discussion.
Mdala briefed the team about Malawi with focus on Trade and Tourism. The discussions dwelt much on the possibility of Egyptian journalists to publish stories about Malawian products which can be exported to Egypt and the vice-versa through their diverse media platforms. Further to that, the discussion also tackled the issue to woo Egyptian investors to invest in Malawi through publishing articles and broadcasting materials with goods and services regarding Trade and Tourism in Malawi. It is envisaged that airing of Malawian produce and services will help intra African trade starting with the two countries.
In his contribution, Abdel Musnif said that as a consultant and advisor on economic issues, this meeting is very important since it is in line with the African economic integration an agenda for Global Business.
Abdel Musnif further said that since the African economies have embarked upon an ambitious journey of continent-wise economic integration. This agenda will provide a wide range of meaningful benefits to all nations including Malawi on the African continent and beyond. By aiding business participation in Africa, international cooperation in this area will foster an enabling environment for its overall inclusive growth. It is therefore imperative that Egyptian media promote Malawi's Trade and Tourism to investors in Egypt and the region.
