In an effort to strengthen the cordial relationship existing between the Republic of Malawi and the Arab Republic of Egypt, especially in the education sector, the Embassy of Malawi in Cairo met Ambassador Abdulrahman Moussa who is advisor to the Grand Imam of Azhar on Foreign Relations.
In his remarks, Dr. Shoaib Mzoma, Deputy Head of Mission, appreciated the relationship between the two countries. Dr. Mzoma further requested the Advisor to increase the number of scholarships offered to Malawian students every year.
In addition, the Deputy Head of Mission asked for the recognition of Malawi School Leaving Certificate (MSCE) as an equivalent to Egyptian Secondary School Certificate (Althanawiya-al-a’ama) in order to reduce the number of years students spend at Azhar University before joining courses of their choice.
Responding to the above requests, Ambassador Moussa said that as an institution they are ready to consider these requests. “The University accommodates many requests from across the globe, and your query should be a priority to us.” Moussa concluded.
However, for specific requests like recognizing the MSCE, Ambassador Moussa referred the Deputy Head of Mission to Professor Fathi Fahmi, Director General of the General Administration for International students at the University.
During a separate follow-up meeting, Professor Fathi Fahmi welcomed the proposal to address the process of admitting students from Malawi in order to ensure that they are enrolled into faculties of their choice immediately.
Azhar University is Egpyt’s oldest degree-granting University and the world’s second oldest degree-granting University offering Islamic and secular studies.
