The government of the Arab Republic of Egypt donated a consignment of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) worth $118,000 to the Government of the Republic of Malawi on 4th September, 2020. The consignment comprises medicine, face shields and masks, rubber gloves, aprons, boots and other medical items.
Her Excellency, Mrs. Caroline C.S. Bwanali-Mussa, Ambassador of the Republic of Malawi to the Arab Republic of Egypt accompanied by Mrs. Jean Kadzakumanja, First Secretary and Head of Chancery at the Embassy, attended the handover ceremony on 4th September, 2020, at Cairo International Airport runway a few hours before the consignment left for Malawi. Ambassador Soha Gendi, Assistant Foreign Minister, represented the Government of Egypt at the function.
The Ambassador expressed her gratitude and appreciation to the Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt, the people and its leadership for the support rendered to Malawi and the gesture of solidarity shown to Malawian people during the Corona Virus pandemic. She further stated that the war against COVID-19 can only be won through concerted and unified efforts continentally and globally. “The sisterly gesture by the Government of Egypt will therefore, go a long way in complementing the Malawi Government efforts to fight the pandemic and protect health workers”, she concluded.
The gift comes within the framework of Egypt’s solidarity to combat the Corona Virus Pandemic and its repercussions on the sisterly African people. Malawi is one of the countries that has benefitted from this noble initiative.
